Essential oils for Pain and Discomfort
If you are having discomfort and trying to find a natural solution-you are in the right place!
Did you know.....
- The US consists of 5% of the worlds population but takes 80% of the worlds prescription opioid drugs
- Every 19 minutes someone dies in the US from an accidental pharma med overdose. Chronic discomfort is also the #1 cause of long-term disability.
- If there are 40 studies that are negative and 2 that are positive, the drug can still be approved by the FDA
The reason I bring up some of these facts is because we have a huge problem with pain meds in this country. Don't get me wrong- just because I am a crazy oil lady doesn't mean I am anti-western medicine. I am SO thankful for our healthcare system and the advancements made in modern medicine. That being said I do believe we have a broken system and it needs some work.
Most everyone will experience some sort of pain or discomfort in their lives. Wouldn't it be nice to have something natural, non toxic and with no side effects right at your fingertips to use at home? Something that doesn't harm your body but actually helps it? Well my friend, this IS possible because of our beautiful earth and mother nature producing essential oils.
Essential oils are wonderful to help with occasional pain and discomfort! I personally have used them for sciatic pain, lower back pain, oral pain, etc. My fiance has spinal stinosis and we manage his pain naturally also. I have used them on my grandmas arthritis, my daughters growing pains, the list goes on and on and on.
There are a handful of essential oils and blends that I would suggest to try! But let's start with the #1-Deep Blue Soothing Blend.
Deep Blue Everything
doTERRA makes an entire line called "Deep Blue".
Deep Blue: The Original Blend
The 5 mL bottle of Deep Blue Soothing Blend contains quite a few essential oils. These include Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus oils.
This is your best option when you want a more intense way to soothe tired muscles after exercise or a long day. It is a useful part of the AromaTouch® Technique because of its immediate tingling and warming effect on the skin. We recommend using it for more intense soothing of the body than any other version. We also recommend diluting it with Fractionated Coconut Oil to your level of comfort. If you would prefer to keep the blend off your hands, you also have the option to purchase it in a 10 mL roll-on.
A long-time doTERRA favorite, Deep Blue Rub contains all the oils found in Deep Blue with the addition of Eucalyptus leaf oil and other moisturizing ingredients. It delivers the oils in a rich topical cream with the added benefit of being moisturizing. Like the blend itself, putting Deep Blue Rub on your skin will give you a comforting sensation that is both cooling and warming.
If you already love the blend, the rub is an excellent way to utilize it. The cream gives you the ability to cover a larger area in a way just as powerful, but a little less strong than Deep Blue oil on its own. If you do want a more intensive treatment, you are welcome to apply the Soothing Blend to your skin first, and then layer the Deep Blue Rub over the top of the area. It is also available in sample form for traveling, or a 32 ounce pump version convenient for massages.
- If you have sensitive skin or children, the doTERRA Deep Blue® Touch is a roll-on diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil for safe and easy application.
- For the internal benefits of the Deep Blue line, look no further than the Deep Blue Polyphenol Complex. While you can’t take the Deep Blue oil blend internally, the complex gets its name from the benefits it brings that are similar to the essential oil blend.
Past Tense Tension Blend
This is one of my favorites (I know I say this a lot but its so hard to choose haha). PastTense is the tension blend and its really cool because you can use it not only for tension, sore muscles, headaches, pain, etc. but it also works great for calming you down when your stressed or anxious too. So I really like that you get the benefits emotionally and physically. My favorite use for this oil is my upper back, neck, and shoulders. Whether I'm traveling and carrying a bunch of baggage and my shoulders get sore, or being on an airplane and being uncomfortable-I never travel without my PastTense. If you work on a computer all day and get sore from being in that position, PastTense will be your new best friend. I had a hair stylist friend who swears by it because their arms are always in the air doing hair and they get so sore! PastTense helps a ton and now every stylist in the salon has a bottle in their area!
Copaiba Essential Oil
Before I get into all the amazing-ness of Copaiba Oil, click this video below for a quick clip of what goes on behind the bottle.
Copaiba is actually a resin that is extracted from copaiba trees in the Amazon rainforest. Copaiba essential oil is a incredibly versatile oil that has been used for centuries. Taking Copaiba essential oil internally can support the cardiovascular, immune, digestive, nervous, and immune system. South Americans have used copaiba resin for the health of many of these same systems. To take advantage of these benefits, add one to two drops of Copaiba oil to water, juice, or make your own tea using warm water and honey. Using it topically is wonderful for pain and inflammation.
The Chemistry of Copaiba Essential Oil
The synergy of chemical constituents in Copaiba oil makes it unique. Copaiba oil's main chemical component is beta-caryophyllene, a chemical similar to cannabinoids found in cannabis that may protect nerve cells and have benefits for the cardiovascular and immune systems. However, while caryophyllene is responsible for some of the bioactive properties of Copaiba oil, many of the other properties of the oil are thanks to the diterpenes uniquely found in Copaiba oil.
The difference in CBD oil Versus Copaiba Oil
Let me just say that I'm a fan of using whatever works for you! I think there are some amazing benefits to CBD oil *IF* you can get an actual consistently pure one (which can be exxpennnsiivee).
If you want to learn all about the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and the difference of CBD and Copaiba, I am actually going to direct you to this site below because its definitely not in layman's terms and who better to learn from than actual scientists and medical professions (which I am clearly not!) So if you're all "sciency" and love chemistry-click here!
You will also love this episode of the doTERRA Essential Oil Solutions podcast where dōTERRA founder Dr. David Hill discusses CBD and Copaiba and will answer questions like what is CBD oil? and what is the difference between CBD and Copaiba? He'll also explain why to consider choosing Copaiba over CBD.
